Hampton Roads is the name of both the body of water and the land that surrounds it in southeastern Virginia. The water area known as Hampton Roads is one of the world's greatest natural harbors. The land area includes most of the counties, cities and towns in the southeastern corner of Virginia and parts of Northeastern North Carolina.

It is also home to the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, built to guide vessels entering the Chesapeake Bay. The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse is the seventeenth lighthouse established in America and second lighthouse built by the Federal Government.

Home to the duel of the famous ironclads in the Battle of Hampton Roads during the American Civil War, Hampton Roads is a true historical gem. Some of the famous sites in the area include Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg.

Also located in the area are the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel which was the first bridge-tunnel complex in the world when completed in 1957, and as well as the 17 mile-long Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. These well known sites draw visitors from around the world.
